Hans Werner Henze

Hans Werner Henze (Gütersloh, 1 de julho de 1926 – Dresden, 27 de outubro de 2012) foi um compositor alemão residente na Itália, conhecido por suas opiniões políticas marxistas que influenciam na sua obra. Trocou a Alemanha pela Itália em 1953, em razão da intolerância as suas posições políticas e a sua homossexualidade. Membro do antigo Partido Comunista Italiano, Henze produziu composições em homenagem a Ho Chi Min e a Che Guevara - o requiem intitulado Das Floss der Medusa (A balsa da Medusa), cuja estréia foi vetada em Hamburgo, em 1968. Henze compõe em vários estilos, tendo sido influenciado pela música atonal, Stravinsky, pela técnica dodecafônica, pelo estruturalismo e por alguns elementos da música popular, do rock e do jazz. Henze faleceu em Dresden, aos 86 anos.
